US envoy to UN Samantha Power will be in Sri Lanka from 21 to 24 November.
She will visit the northern city of Jaffna to meet with local government officials and organizations and communities affected by the conflict. She will also meet Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
At present she is touring India where she will meet with senior government officials to discuss UN Peacekeeping and the US-India strategic partnership. Additionally she will meet civil society members and human rights activists in India.
On Friday, November 20, Power will deliver a speech on UN Peacekeeping at the Indian Council of World Affairs. Power’s speech will focus on the vital role that peacekeeping plays in maintaining international peace and security, and will highlight the key challenges that must be addressed to improve effectiveness.
