United National Party Hambantota District Parliamentarian and rebel Sajith Premadasa will be extended a special invitation to attend the meeting of the Leadership Council meeting to be held next Tuesday (17), the Council announced yesterday.
Premadasa who was appointed a member of the new Council that changed the leadership structure of the UNP last month, has declined to accept the position.
Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya is to personally extend the invitation to Premadasa, the announcement said.
The Council has refrained from filling the vacancies on the nine-member board created by the absence of Premadasa and his loyalist, MP Thalatha Athukorale.
Athukorale is also to receive an invitation to attend Tuesday’s meet, the UNP said.
The decisions were reached during the meeting of the Leadership Council at the Parliamentary Complex yesterday.
The Council also agreed that the UNP Convention would be held on 21 December.
Another key decision reached at yesterday’s meeting was that the Council would conclude assessments of current electoral organises of the UNP by January and conclude new appointments and the filling of vacancies in that area within the month. (DB)
