The Sailan Muslim Foundation of Canada called for “unity and harmonious co-existence” among all Sri Lankans in its Independence Day message.
The following is the full statement:
Every year 4 February has been celebrated as Independence Day of Sri Lanka to commemorate political independence from the British rule since 1948.
At this juncture, it is an opportune moment for all Sri Lankans to look back and reflect on our achievements and success and be prepared to take immense strides from now onwards to achieve greater socioeconomic development and justice.
Let 4 February 2015 be a day that brings unity and harmonious co-existence among all Sri Lankans with respect and dignity, regardless of race, religion, caste or creed. Sri Lanka has reached a milestone in its political maturity.
We take pride in wishing Hon. Maithripala Sirisena; President. Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe; Prime Minister and the people of Sri Lanka a happy Independence Day 2015.
