The Central Bank (CBSL) has issued a special silver uncirculated commemorative coin with a face value of Rs. 500 to mark the 150th Anniversary of Colombo Municipal Council in recognition of its service to the country.
The commemorative coin was officially presented to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake by CBSL Governor Arjuna Mahendran at the ceremony held at the premises of Colombo Municipal Council on 14 December.
The obverse of the coin depicts the design of the 150th Anniversary logo of the Colombo Municipal Council with the years ‘1865’ and ‘2015’ on either side. The words ‘MARVEL OF COHESION’ and ‘150 ANNIVERSARY’ in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages appear at the bottom of the design. The words ‘COLOMBO MUNICIPAL COUNCIL’ in English, Sinhala and Tamil languages appear on the periphery of the coin.
The reverse of the coin depicts the face value ‘500’ in large numerals in the centre with the words ‘Five Hundred Rupees’ in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages just below. The words ‘Sri Lanka’ in Tamil, Sinhala and English languages appear on the periphery with the year ‘2015’ at the bottom edge of the coin.
A limited number of coins will be available for sale at a fixed price of Rs. 8,110 at Colombo Municipal Council, Town Hall, Colombo 7.
