President Maithripala Sirisena has given approval for provision of Rs. 4.68 million as compensation for 33 victims of the Rathupaswala incident. Accordingly, the President will on 8 April present the compensation monies to 24 persons, who were rendered fully or partially disabled or who are admitted to hospitals for treatment in the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat , and to 9 persons from the Mahara Divisional Secretariat.
During the last few weeks the President paid special attention to securing justice for those injured in the incident in Rathupaswala. A committee headed by the Secretary of Gampaha District was also appointed to provide recommendations.
The compensation was provided according to the recommendations by that committee.
