Rs. 3 b for Jaffna Hospital development

Northern Jaffna Hospital is to be further developed to enhance the health facilities in the district. The Jaffna Hospital which also serves as the teaching hospital for the Medical Faculty of the Jaffna University is the main hospital with state-of-the-art health facilities to serve the northern peninsula.

Development of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital has been stepped up to further strengthen and enhance the health facilities of the North. The total allocation made for development work on the Jaffna Teaching Hospital is three billion rupees. Financial grants are being channeled by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.



Among the facilities to be provided includes an OPD unit, surgical wards, emergency treatment unit, laboratory services and rest rooms for the hospital staff. Civilians in Jaffna as well as in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts will benefit immensely by the upgrading of the Jaffna Hospital.

Additional Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala declared open the new eye clinic affiliated to the Jaffna Hospital. The Health Ministry, under its “Vision 2020” programme has provided many facilities to eye patients in the Jaffna District, including granting of contact lenses free of charge.
