Colombo Royal College student Jagath Sasanka Alwis’ family was handed over a house by Minister Sajith Premadasa in Maradana on Thursday (9). Jagath was a Grade 9 student in 2013 but for the last three years has been in a semi-conscious state following an accident at the college swimming pool on 2 March 2013. Jagath has no father and lived in a small house at 204 Watta. The land and small house had been acquired by the Road Development Road winding project.
Jagath’s sad story was highlighted in print and social media last week and Jagath’s mother wrote an appeal to the Minister of Housing Construction Sajith Premadasa requesting for a house.
Minister Sajith Premadasa handed over a house in the Ground Floor of an NHDA flat in 797, Watta, Temple Road, Colombo 10 Thursday (9) to Jagath’s family. This house worth Rs. 3,516,858 was given free of charge. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe handed over the ownership deed for the new house to Jagath’s mother on 31 May at Temple Trees.
