The Government said yesterday that it would make necessary arrangements to present a Right to Information Bill in parliament shortly.
Acting Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa has told the Cabinet press briefing that the government was in the process of drafting the Right to Information Bill and that it would address a large number of issues.
Yapa has added that the Right to Information Bill presented to the House by the opposition United National Party parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya this week was defeated by the government since Jayasuriya had violated an agreement reached at the party leaders’ meeting in parliament. The Bill presented by Jayasuriya was defeated by a majority of 63 votes.
