Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media and the Chief Government Whip, Gayantha Karunatilleke yesterday informed the House that the Bill entitled ‘Right to Information’ will be presented to Parliament during the next sitting week.
According to the Minister, the Bill needs to be cleared by all Provincial Councils for better understanding before being presented the Parliament.
“We were planning to present the Right to Information Bill to Parliament today. All Provincial Councils were given the bill for approval. But the Northern Provincial Council, which will sit on 10 March, has informed us of its inability to consider the bill before,” said Karunatilleke.
“We believe the Northern Provincial Council will pass the Bill once they sit on 10 March. Immediately after receiving their approval, we will present the Right to Information Bill in Parliament,” he added. (AH)
