In the wake of England urging Sri Lanka to investigate possible war crimes after the Channel 4 documentary airing, a group of Sri Lankans who were deported from the United Kingdom arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday.
The group of deportees included 16 Tamils, seven Muslims and three Sinhalese persons. It was reported that the Criminal Investigative Department division at the Airport as well as the National Intelligence Department had recorded the statements of these returnees before they were allowed to leave the premises. The Sri Lankans were deported by the UK Border Agency for a breach of visa regulations. On the returning flight to Sri Lanka deportees were also escorted by UK Border Agency officials. There were no arrests of Sri Lankan deportees when they landed in the Bandaranaike International Airport. According to the government news website a total of 40 Sri Lankans will eventually be deported back to Sri Lanka - Pix by Kumarasiri Prasad
