Regional Development Ministry gets Rs. 592 m

Minister of Regional Development, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, yesterday,  recieved Parliamentary approval for a Supplementary Estimate for Rs. 592 million to finance the newly established ministry.

The amount will finance both recurrent and capital expenditure for the 12-month period ending 31st December 2016, the minister informed parliament.

The amount, not exceeding Rs. 592,925,000, as per the limits of expenditure already approved by the Parliament for the year, is to be obtained from the Consolidated Fund, or any other fund or money belonging to the government, Minister Fonseka said, moving the motion, under supplementary sum head 147 program 1.

The approval of the supplementary estimate will enable the “transfer  of  anticipated savings  under  various  Heads  of Expenditure already approved by the Parliament to Budgetary Support Services and Contingent Liability Project of the Head of  Expenditure  of  the  Department  of  National  Budget  for  prioritisation  and accelerating  of  development  projects  functioning  under  identified  foreign  funds  and transferring  them  to  relevant  Ministries  as  Supplementary  Provisions  subject  to provisions of Section 6.1 and 6.2 of the Appropriation Act, No.16 of 2015; provided that such funds will not exceed the limits of expenditure already approved by the Parliament of  the  Democratic  Socialist  Republic  of  Sri  Lanka  for  the  use  of  the  financial  year commencing on 1st January 2016 and ending on 31st December 2016,” he added reading the motion.  (AH)
