Businessman Ravi Buddhadasa Wettasinghe, who was arrested recently for allegedly defrauding a company director, was ordered to be remanded until 25 May by Colombo High Court judge Padmini N. Ranawaka.
Wettasinghe was being indicted for allegedly defrauding Don Anthony Rohan of Kandana of Rs. 10 million on 16 September 2005 after promising to provide him with a house in Nawala. For several years this case was heard without the accused being present in court. Wettasinghe was arrested by immigration officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport on 20 February while attempting to leave the country for Dubai. He became the Chairman of Wesco after he bought over the CTB’s Werahera Central Workshop for Rs. 25 million in 1993.
