The main Opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday warned Chinese companies saying that alleged illegal contracts signed with the current Government will be made invalid if the Opposition comes to power.
UNP MP Ravi Karun-anayake told Parliament that the UNP will not allow India to be sidelined by giving more prominence to China through major projects in the country.
He accused the Government of attempting to create competition between India and China by giving priority to Chinese companies in Sri Lanka. The MP alleged that the Government was involved in illegal deals with China at the expense of ties with India.
Karunanayake also raised questions over the deal signed between the Chinese and Sri Lanka on the Colombo Port City project.
He said that while the Government is pointing fingers at the Opposition, there are several questions and allegations concerning the Government which need to be looked into.
