The Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ Summit was held recently (6 October) in Washington on the sidelines of the annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Several world issues, including the prevailing global economic crisis, the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union and preparation of finances to face climate change, were discussed during the meeting. Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake also participated in this meeting. Meanwhile, Minister Karunanayake said that Sri Lanka received heavy acclaim at the Summit.
At the same time, the annual meetings of the WB and the IMF were held recently (7 October). Finance Ministers and top-level officials from the finance sectors of 189 countries are participating in the WB and IMF annual meetings this year.
Besides Minister Karunanayake, the delegation to the WB and IMF meetings includes Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga and Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy.
