Deputy Minister Thilanga Sumathipala has claimed that although the Elections Commissioner had promised to conduct a free and fare election, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has been able to unleash terror in the city of Colombo.
Addressing a media briefing in Colombo, the Deputy Minister of Skills Development stated that the UPFA Government had managed to eradicate the underworld during its reign.
Sumathipala, who is a UPFA Colombo District candidate, charged that UNP candidate Karunanayake had violated election laws by using such a large number of people for campaigning activities in the Bloemendhal area yesterday and questioned whether this was “good governance”.
Terror has already reached Colombo now, he said, adding that this “terror” was receiving UNP sponsorship.
Sumathipala claimed that police had arrested 21 persons in connection with yesterday’s shooting and that Minister Karunanayake was exerting pressure on the police to release them.
