Editor of the independent newspaper Ravaya, K.W. Janaranjana was grilled for two-and-a-half hours by the Criminal Investigation Department on Monday. The Ravaya Editor was summoned to the fourth floor over a lead story two weeks ago alluding to a report compiled by the State Intelligence Services that had got the unit’s Chief, DIG Chandra Wakishta, allegedly sacked by the Government. Janaranjana was grilled about the lead story for over two hours. The Editor told BBC Sinhala yesterday that the newspaper stands by the story, because the facts contained therein were true. “There is no challenge to the truth of the story, as per the information we have,” the Ravaya Editor told the BBC. Janaranjana also told the BBC Sinhala Service that a certain group had been intimidating newspaper agents selling copies of Ravaya in the Colombo and Anamaduwa areas. Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana has denied the existence of such a report or the sacking of the DIG. The polling data compiled by SIS had predicted Opposition candidate would win the 8 January presidential poll by 59%. (DB)
