The leader of main opposition United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe says the party’s next convention due end of this year would see radical changes in the party.
Wickremasinghe addressing the ceremony at the party headquarters to mark the UNP’s 66th anniversary observed that the party would undergo changes during its next convention.
He said the party would return to power with full force by next year and called on the people to rise against the corrupt government to bring about a positive change to the country.
According to Wickrem-asinghe, people were now realizing the failures of the government and are now raising a voice against it.
Wickremasinghe also declared open the renovated UNP headquarters Sirikotha and felicitated longstanding party members.
However, local media reported that the deputy leader of the UNP Sajith Premadasa and former party deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya were absent during the ceremony.
