The UNP said yesterday that the Government feared today’s massive strike against the electricity tariffs hike and was using various tactics to force the workers to keep away from taking part in the campaign.

“The government is afraid of our strike campaign to be held tomorrow. It had even threatened Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees to abstain the strike,” UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told an event held to strengthen its media campaign ‘Sannivedana Balakaya’.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the Government had tried to sabotage the protest march held on May 15 against the tariff hike, but failed.
