Main opposition United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has been issued a Court notice to appear before court on 23 May to respond to a petition filed against him.
UNPer Maithri Gunaratne yesterday filed a petition challenging the appointment of parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayaka to the post of National Organiser of the UNP at the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court.
The petition sought an enjoining order against the appointment, claiming it was in violation of the party Constitution.
The Magistrate had said that defendants needed to be given an opportunity to respond before a decision is made on issuing an enjoining order.
Wickremesinghe and the rest of the defendants have been issued notice to appear in court on 23 May to respond to the petition.
