With the restoration of train services from Colombo to Jaffna last week after a 24-year lapse, Sri Lanka Railways plans to commence transporting fuel to the north by train.
The Railways Department has decided to commence transportation of fuel by train, from Kolonnawa Oil Depot of the Petroleum Corporation to Jaffna.
At present, fuel is being transported by train only up to Vavuniya.
According to Railways Department officials, it is possible to transport 500,000 litres of fuel by train at a time, thus saving large sums which would be incurred if several tankers were to be used for the delivery.
