Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development made an inspection tour on Gampaha District public markets on 9 March 2012. There are more than 40 public markets in Gampaha District but traders and consumers had faced lot of difficulties due to lack of sanitation, water and electricity and parking facilities. Therefore Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development has initiated a program to develop the all public markets in Gampaha District.
Minister Rajapaksa visited Mawaramandiya,Pattiwila, Poogoda, Kirindiwela, Malwathuhiripitiya and Waliweriya public markets and directed relevant officers to accelerate the development activities these markets.
Under the guidance of Rajapaksa, Ministry of Economic Development has taken steps to implement this program countrywide.
Pandu Bandaranayaka, Deputy Minister of Indigenous Medicine, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Deputy Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, Dulip Wijesekara Deputy Minister of Disaster Management and Government officials also participated at these occasions.
