Wasantha Samarasinghe, the Chairman of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) led Inter Company Employees’ Union (ICEU) said yesterday that the attempts to pass the private sector Pension Fund Act amidst the protests of the employees would disrupt industrial peace in the country.

Samarasinghe made this statement addressing a meeting held after a protest demonstration organised by the Inter Company Employees’ Union in front of the Colombo Fort Railway Station.

The trade union leader further vowed to call an island wide strike on the day the private sector Pension Fund Act is taken up in parliament. He said that the private sector employees would surround the parliament on that day coming to the streets in millions.

A replica of the proposed Act was burnt by the agitators at the end of their protest.
