Prime Minister kicks off 3-day first official visit to north today

By Waruni Paranagamage Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will undertake an official visit to Northern Province from 27 to 29 March, the Prime Minister’s Media Unit announced yesterday. On 27 March, Wickremesinghe will visit the Naga Vihara, District Secretary Office, NallurKovil and other significant places in Jaffna. The officials said that the aim of the visit was to convey his appreciation to the northern people for their valuable support during the victory of Maithripala Sirisena at the presidential election. The visit will also result in the kick off some programs in Jaffna, promised by the 100 days manifesto such as providing a Rs. 20, 000 food allowance to pregnant mothers in the country. The officials said that the Prime Minister would hold discussions with the Jaffna fishing community regarding their problems. One day two, a tour of Delft Island, PalaiArmy Camp and Nagadeepa Temple has been arranged. The Prime Minister is expected to travel to Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts on 29 March. Wickremesinghe will also meet Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs, rehabilitated youth and women breadwinners in both districts. The tour is supported by the Divisional Secretary, Local Government, local Government officials, Jaffnafishery communities, Sri Lanka Navy, Jaffna Municipal Council and others.
