A ceremony for handing over new appointment letters to the chairman and six members who were unanimously appointed for the ‘WAKUF’ Committee was held recently at the Prime Minister’s Office.
To take the leadership in Muslim religious affairs, investigate the short comings of the mosques, registration of mosques, appointing trustees and solving conflicts created within mosques were the primary objectives and responsibilities of the newly appointed members of the ‘WAKUF’ Committee.
Appointing of new members to the Islamic WAKUF Board was done under the guidance of the Deptartment of Muslim Affairs and these appointments are valid for another three years.
Investment Promotion Deputy Minister Faiszer Musthapha stated that some people are spreading rumours with the intention of sending people astray. The Minister added that to avoid this kind of situation the Ministry of Buddha Sasana has taken steps to implement some important programs in amalgamation with the Department of Muslim Affairs.
Further, he stated that the official ceremony that took place is the best example to prove the Prime Minister’s concern about the peace and harmony among the Sri Lankan communities to the whole country as well as who rise against Sri Lanka internationally with unhealthy plans.Musthapha stressed that unlike the other personnel the Prime Minister would not condemn racism in politics or mass communication but proves himself by his deeds.
