President’s Secretary leaves for US to brief on country’s developments

Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has left for the United States on a mission ahead of the upcoming United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session to brief the US leaders on Sri Lanka’s developments on reconciliation and accountability issues. Weeratunga is in charge of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of the Recommendations by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). He has finished briefing the envoys of the UNHRC member states in Geneva yesterday on the latest developments regarding implementing the LLRC recommendations, local radio Hiru FM reported. Following his session in Geneva, Weeratunga has left for Washington directly. The official is expected to meet officials of the US State Department, congressmen and senators.
