Presidential Task Force for protection of children

In line with the promise given by President Maithripala Sirisena, a special discussion on establishing of a Presidential Task Force for the protection of the children of the nation was held on Thursday at the Presidential Secretariat.

The discussion was based on the issues arisen on the protection of children, and the measures taken for the safety and development of children.

Attention was also paid on the actions related to the health and nutrition of the children, and the legal reforms required for the betterment of the children.

The President pointed out that there should be a proper coordination among all institutions working for the children, to ensure the security of the children. He instructed to introduce a new program to strengthen the current program carried out for the children’s protection.

President Sirisena also instructed to appoint a committee representing every institution working for the protection of the children, and ask the committee to submit a report before 25 January, including proposals and ideas related to the Presidential Task Force on Child Protection.

They also discussed about the drug addiction among the children, especially in their young age and the ways and means of saving them from the drug menace.

Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thero, State Minister Sudarshini Fernando Pulle and the Secretary to the President P.B. Abeykoon also participated in this discussion.
