As the first milestone of the project “Ratama Eliyai, Adura Duralai” (A brighter country – eliminating darkness) National Electrification campaign, a national ceremony was held to provide electricity to every household in the Polonnaruwa District, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena in Sri Bodhirajaramaya , Dimbulagala, this week.
Under this project nearly 8,000 households in the Polonnaruwa district received the electricity facility.
Inaugurating the project, the President switch on the lights at the house of Podi Nona, Elle Wewa area. Following that the President switched on the illumination of the Stupa in Sri Bodhirajaramaya.
Expressing his views, the President said that the main objective of the government in the year 2016, is to build a strong economy and to achieve this target the existing infrastructure facilities are not adequate and the attention of the government has been drawn to develop the required facilities.
The President further said that all the obstacles existed for the development of this country were now gone as all the countries in the world expressed their willingness to work with us in a cordial and friendly manner. The year 2016 can be considered as the year of new beginnings for our country.
The President also joined to listen to the chanting of seth pirith by the Maha Sangha including the Nayaka Thero of Sri Bodhirajaramaya.
Minister of Power and Renewable energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister, Ajith P. Perera, Chief Minister of the North Central Provincial Council, Peshala Jayarathna, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Renewable energy, S. Batagoda, Nalaka Kolonne MP and others participated in the event.
