President Maithripala Sirisena said that he is dedicated to establish a new political culture by rectifying the mistakes that have been done in the past in the political arena.

The President made this comment while addressing the district convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) of the Polonnaruwa District held on Sunday at the Buddhi Mandapaya in Polonnaruwa.

He stressed that common development of the country is the main goal of the Government, not personal gains. Resources will be made available accordingly for the elected representatives to implement institutional policies and plans.

The President said he will not allow anyone to use public funds for their personal benefits and for obtaining votes and assured that public money will be used in its maximum to build the nation.

Speaking further, the President noted that the changes people anticipated for the last 37 years to remove the unlimited powers of the executive presidency have now been realised and stressed that the Government’s people friendly program will be further strengthened.

He said that similar to the strengthening of the freedom and democracy in the country, the democracy within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will also be strengthened to empower the members of the party.

The leader of the opposition Nimal Siripala De Silva, the General Secretary of the SLFP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, several ministers and parliamentarians also attended the meeting.
