President expresses condolences over Thailand tragedy

President Maithripala Sirisena today offered his condolences to Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej over the loss of life through the deadly bomb blast near Bangkok’s Erawan shrine on Monday.

Sending a message of condolence, the President said the Government and the people of Sri Lanka were “shocked and deeply saddened” by Monday’s tragic bomb blast resulting in tremendous loss of life and injury to hundreds of innocent civilians including several foreign nationals.

He said Sri Lanka strongly condemned this dastardly act and stood in solidarity with the Government and people of Thailand in its time of grief.

Following is the message of condolence issued by President Sirisena.

Your Majesty,

The Government and people of Sri Lanka are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic bomb blast outside Erawan Shrine in central Bangkok on Monday, resulting in loss of life and injury to hundreds of innocent people including foreign nationals.

On behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, I take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt condolences to Your Majesty, and through you, to the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and wish those injured a speedy recovery.

The Government and the people of Sri Lanka strongly condemn this dastardly act, and stand in solidarity with the Government and the people of Thailand in this time of grief. I am confident that all measures would be taken by the Government of Thailand to bring the perpetrators of this act of terror to justice.

Please accept, Your Majesty, the assurances of my highest consideration, and my best wishes for your continued success and personal wellbeing.
