President evaluates progress of development in Puttalam District

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday presided over the Puttalam District Development Committee meeting at Madampe Cooperative Hall.
The District Development Committee meeting was held to review the progress of the development projects implemented in the district and to discuss the development projects to be implemented in the future.
The meeting dealt exclusively on the development activities taking place in the district especially focusing on the District’s power requirement. The President was informed that 95% of the power requirement in the Puttalam district has already been fulfilled.
During the meeting district officials briefed the President that the Puttalam District has produced 92,196 metric tons paddy, 60,505 metric tons of vegetables and 58,673 metric tons of fruits in 2013.
The President also conducted an observation tour in the District and instructed officials to provide accommodation facilities for teachers in remote and difficult areas during the DDC meeting.
The progress evaluation meeting also looked into the issues such as development of agricultural, water supply, education and highways.
MPs and ministers representing the Puttalam District, heads of local government institutions in the District as well as senior ministry officials were present at the occasion.
