President Maithripala Sirisena said a special program for coast conservation and preservation would be initiated shortly.
“That program will be implemented with the support of every party,” he said.
The President made these remarks during an inspection of the Coast Conservation Department yesterday.
President Sirisena observed work at the Coast Conservation Department and met with staff at its auditorium.
The President inquired about the progress of conservation and preservation programs carried out by the department. He looked into the issues that had arisen during the implementation of these programs.
He pointed out the importance of paying special attention to soil formation project and directed officials to remove unauthorised buildings with the help of the police.
Director General of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Department, B. K. Prabhath Chandrasiri also joined the discussion.
