President Maithripala Sirisena has sent a message on Wednesday to Iran’s President-elect Hassan Rouhani congratulating him on his re-election as the country’s president. In his message, President Sirisena has expressed the hope to witness bolstering of mutual relations during Rouhani’s taking office, Iranian official news agency IRNA said.
“I would like to congratulate you as the new Iranian president on behalf of the Sri Lankan nation and wishing you all the best,” he said.
“I am very interested to pay a visit to Iran to help broaden mutual cooperation between the two countries,” he said in his message. The 12th presidential election was held nationwide and in 102 world countries on 19 May and Rouhani was re-elected as president scoring 57% of votes.
