President chairs meeting on establishing Pandit Amaradewa Music Centre

As a response to the request made by legendary musician Pandit Amaradewa before his demise to establish a music centre for the benefit of future generations, President Maithripala Sirisena headed a discussion on the preliminary activities in that regard on Thursday at the President’s Official Residence.

The President directed officials to work on the preliminary stages of the project before Pandit Amaradewa’s three months death anniversary in honour of the late singer. The possibility of establishing this proposed Amaradewa Music Center in the premises of Ape Gama, with its great aesthetic value, was also discussed. A committee was appointed by the President to work on this matter.

Another discussion on this will be held on 30 January, once the committee has carried out its feasibility study of the music centre.

Ministers S. B. Navinna, Gayantha Karunathilaka, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs Anusha Gokula and Amaradewa’s wido Vimala Amaradewa were among  also took part in the discussions.
