PRECIFAC to release final report on Rakna Lanka soon

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) is to release the final report of the investigation into Rakna Araksha Lanka Ltd. (RALL) soon.

Following a complaint, PRECIFAC investigated the alleged misusing of State funds and use of Rakna Araksha Lanka Ltd. (RALL) employees at the 2015 presidential election campaign.

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and top defence officials including three former Commanders of the Sri Lanka Navy were also grilled by PRECIFAC over the investigation into RALL. “Recording of statements from the former Defence Secretary was concluded before 24 March. PRECIFAC is now in the process of preparing the final report of the RALL investigation,” PRECIFAC Secretary H.W. Gunadasa told the Daily FT.

With over 1,500 complaints on fraud and corruption in State institutions, PRECIFAC has received another 32 complaints on fraud and corruption before 24 March, the last day given to the public by the Commission to lodge their complaints. “However, we 39-032accepted complaints till 28 March and got another 38 such complaints. The Commission is now assessing them to carry out investigations,” he said.

The President-appointed PRECIFAC, which is investigating complaints on large-scale fraud and corruption during the previous Mahinda Rajapaksa Government, operates under the instructions of the Commissioners – High Court Judges Padman Surasena, Amendra Seneviratne, Vikum Kaluarachchi, Gihan Kulatunga and former Auditor General B.A. Premathilake.

Bribery commission files case against former Ports Authority Chief

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption yesterday filed a case against the former chairman of the Ports Authority Priyath Bandu Wickrama. The case was filed at the Colombo Chief Magistrates’ over allegations of corruption said to have taken place when he was the chairman. The Commission said that the case was filed against two others as well.
