Supporters of an independent group contesting the Northern Provincial Council elections under the padlock symbol were attacked in Pannai Palam, Jaffna, last morning.
They were attacked by men who had arrived on motorbikes while they were pasting election related posters in the area.
A three-wheeler used by the supporters of the independent group was also set on fire during the attack.
Some of the members of the independent group were injured in the attack and admitted to hospital.
