Police stations countrywide will stand ready to assist displaced people due to the adverse weather condition, the Law and Order and Southern Development Ministry said yesterday.
Issuing a statement the ministry said Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister and Law and Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayake has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to deploy OICs of all Police stations to coordinate the immediate facilitating process along with Divisional Secretaries and Grama Seva Niladaris.
Accordingly Police personnel will support in providing temporary shelters and urgent relief for displaced people.
Minister Ratnayake has advised the IGP to collect information about landslides and floods received to 119 emergency numbers. IGP was also asked to manage the heavy traffic caused by the rain. (CG)
