Sri Lanka Police on Wednesday night have arrested 27 Australia bound illegal migrants who were waiting at several locations in the Ambalangoda for their departure. Acting on information received, the Police have arrested the 27 boatpeople from three locations in the area, the Police media unit has said.
One group was arrested at a hotel in Ambalangoda while another group was arrested from a house in the Galle area. The third group was arrested from Beruwala, according to the Police media unit.
The local media said among the arrested were seven Sinhala men and others were all Tamils including six women and four children. The arrested are residents of Trincomalee, Negombo, Vavuniya, Galle, Ambalangoda, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu.
