Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe spoke about expected development activities to be carried out in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort, in a special meeting held yesterday.
The discussion mainly focused on the development of Galle Fort with Wickremesinghe stressing on the importance of development in conserving the historical values of the historic Fort. He also advised the relevant officials to take down ideas from residents living in and around the Galle Fort, in order to implement an effective and inclusive development project which could offer many benefits to the Fort’s residential community.
The Prime Minister further requested officials to implement urban development activities, which he stated would help bridge the Galle Fort with “the new world”. Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena and Media and Parliament Rehabilitation Minister Gayantha Karunatilake, Provincial Councillors and officials from the Road Development Authority participated in the discussion.
