The new political front formed in Sri Lanka with the United National Party at its helm will present a five-point master plan for the development of the country, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe revealed.

Addressing an election campaign meeting held at Bulathsinghala in Kalutara on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said a general election is being held to elect a new parliament while safeguarding the law and order for the first time in a decade.

The Premier assured to take every measure to ensure a free and fair election on 17 August and said that the police have been instructed to implement the law strictly.

He revealed that a five-point master plan for the development of the country that will pave way for a safer country will be launched next week. The five points include generating employment opportunities, increasing revenues and infrastructure facilities as well as preventing corruption.

The Prime Minister further emphasised that the United National Front is ready to create one million jobs within the next five years.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe pointed out that the United National Front’s desire is to fulfil the needs of the people but the opposition United People’s Freedom Front (UPFA) led by the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa only wishes to strengthen Rajapaksa’s power. As such this is a decisive election for the people, the PM stressed.

He said a new UNF government will introduce a new constitution that safeguards people’s rights.

The United National Front for Good Governance led by the United National Party (UNP) held its maiden election rally in Kandy on Tuesday after handing over nominations on the 13th to contest the parliamentary elections.
