Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed both Minister Rauff Hakeem and the National Water Supply Board Chairman not to proceed with a planned water supply disruption on 5 July due to it being Ramazan.
The instructions came after direct complaint by Industry & Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to the PM about the sudden decision to disrupt supplies to the Dehiwala, Mt. Lavinia, Wellawatte, Bambalapitiya, Colpetty,Kirulapona and Pamankada areas on 5 July by the NWSB. Minister Bathiudeen complained that the sudden water disruption on the eve of the Muslim Eid holiday is hindering Eid preparations and ‹not helping.›
“Repairs are needed but should be done without inconveniencing the Muslims who after a month long difficult fast are looking to end it at earliest, “said Minister Bathiudeen.
