Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has assured that the Government will do its utmost to crackdown on the heroin trade in Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister, who has himself been embroiled in a heroin controversy, said that the authorities are on alert to arrest those smuggling heroin, ethanol and other items into the country. However he noted that the Government alone cannot eradicate the heroin menace and that action must also be taken to address the issue on a religious level, school level and at home.
The Prime Minister said that while children must be advised against doing wrong, even adults must be given the same advice.
He also noted that the failure for children to be led on the right track and follow their religion to the book is also a cause for those children being misled. (Colombo Gazette)
