Pillay to meet senior judicial officers

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay will meet senior judges during her visit to Sri Lanka at the end of this month, her office announced in a media release yesterday. Her office said her visit would include meetings with “senior judicial figures”. High Commissioner Pillay, who will arrive in Sri Lanka on 25 August, is also scheduled to call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and meet Government ministers and officials. “She will hold talks with senior judicial figures, members of the National Human Rights Commission and the committee monitoring the National Plan of Action on the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt Reconciliation Commission,” the High Commissioner’s Office said in a statement. The High Commissioner is also expected to meet with representatives of civil society and undertake field visits to the north and east of the country. Pillay will hold a news conference in Colombo on 31 August at the end of her visit, her office said. Pillay’s 25-31 August visit is at the invitation of the Government of Sri Lanka.
