A Sri Lankan court yesterday postponed the case filed against the appointment of Ravi Karunanayaka as the National Organiser of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) till 6 June.
Nugegoda District Court heard the petition challenging the appointment filed by UNP Southern Provincial Councillor and Attorney Maithri Gunaratne.
The petition has cited 75 respondents including UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The lawyers appearing for Wickremesinghe had said the party leader challenges the petition, but needed for more time to respond to it.
The counsels appearing for the UNP working committee citing preliminary objections against the petition said the petitioner is not even a member of the UNP and a non-party member had no right to challenge the working committee appointments.
District Judge Champa Janaki Rajarathna directed the prosecution to file the written submissions regarding the objection by 6 June. (www.colombopage.com)
