Sources from the government said that the petition signed by the Sri Lankans against the report of the Expert Panel appointed by the United Nations Secretary General to advise on Sri Lanka will be handed over to the UN next week.

The Minister of Private Transport Services R.M.C.B. Ratnayake, who is the chief organiser of the petition campaign against the report, named as Darusman Report by the local media, says that one million signatures have been collected for the petition from all over the island.

The organisers have spent 10 days to collect the signatures. The campaign was held in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu Districts of the Northern Province as well.

The Minister says that the petition with the signatures is being brought to Colombo now.

The Sri Lankan government last month rejected the report saying that it was “fundamentally flawed in many respects and based on patently biased materials.” (www.colombopage.com)
