Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Western Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpila said that the political parties may not tend to grant nominations to the professionals at future elections.
Addressing a press briefing held in Colombo, Gammanpila said that the majority of the professionals who were granted nomination by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had not been elected since they had not gained the expected number of preferential votes.
Gamanpila, who bagged second highest number of preferential votes, said that he was the only lawyer elected from a number of lawyers who were in the list. He also pointed out that the doctor and the engineer who were in the Colombo District list of UPFA candidates had not been elected.
He lamented that in this context the voters complaining about the qualifications of the candidates would not be meaningful.
