Concluding his investigations and issuing a report, the Sergeant at Arms Anil Samarasekera has identified the “flower and other foliage pots as the mode of transport”, which enabled the serpent to make it inside the chamber of the Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickramasinghe on 21st November 2013.
This three paged report, which was submitted to the Secretary General of the Parliament mostly includes the statements obtained from the housekeeping employees, a technician, a Police officer on duty at that time, and a staff member of the Opposition Leader’s department. “Several occasions there were serpents found on the ground floor. The Monstera plant is a suitable camouflage for a serpent to hide itself. The plants were not properly inspected before being taken inside the house. The particular serpent could have been inside the Opposition Leader’s officer but have failed to get noticed until 21st. “I recommend that anti serpent chemicals to be sprayed upon the plants at Parliament nursery and be thoroughly inspected before being taken inside,” recommended Samarasekera.
