Pakistan’s new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Maj. Gen. (Retired) Qasim Qureshi, presented his credentials to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees in Colombo on 19 March 2013. Major General (Retired) Qasim Qureshi arrived in Colombo earlier this month.
Major General (Retired) Qasim Qureshi had joined Pakistan Army in November 1972 and was commissioned in October 1974. He retired from Pakistan Army’s active service in October 2009.
Maj. Gen. (R) Qasim Qureshi has held various important assignments during his military career. Since retirement Maj. Gen. (R) Qasim Qureshi has been involved in various Track 2 initiatives prior to joining his present assignment. The newly appointed High Commissioner is a highly decorated officer having numerous honours and awards to his credit including ‘Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military)’ and ‘Sitara-i-Esaar’. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Prof. G.L Peris and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratnuga were also present at the occasion.
