The visit of Pakistan’s Army Chief will provide both sides an opportunity to review ongoing cooperation and collaboration and to discuss ways to further broaden and deepen this relationship. A get together of Pakistan Staff College and National Defence University’s qualified officers is being arranged during visit of General Kayani to provide opportunity to the Sri Lankan alumni of these prestigious Pakistani institutions to interact with Pakistan’s Army Chief.
General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is Pakistan’s 14th Army Chief and is noted for his patience, diligence, intelligence and determination. He was commissioned in an infantry battalion on 29 August 1971 and joined the famed Baloch Regiment. He has been holding the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff since November 2007.
Since independence, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have consistently maintained close, cordial and mutually supportive relations especially in the field of defence. This relationship is likely to grow in coming years.
