Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is due to undertake a three day visit to Sri Lanka starting from 27 June. This will be his second visit as he previously visited Sri Lanka in January 2011. During his stay in Sri Lanka, General Kayani will meet the top military leadership of the country. He will also hold discussions on matters of professional interests with Secretary Defence Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa.  General Kayani will review the passing out parade at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa on 28 June 2013 as Chief Guest. The visit of Pakistan’s Army Chief will provide both sides an opportunity to review ongoing cooperation and collaboration and to discuss ways to further broaden and deepen this relationship. A get together of Pakistan Staff College and National Defence University’s qualified officers is being arranged during visit of General Kayani to provide opportunity to the Sri Lankan alumni of these prestigious Pakistani institutions to interact with Pakistan’s Army Chief. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is Pakistan’s 14th Army Chief and is noted for his patience, diligence, intelligence and determination. He was commissioned in an infantry battalion on 29 August 1971 and joined the famed Baloch Regiment. He has been holding the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff since November 2007. Since independence, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have consistently maintained close, cordial and mutually supportive relations especially in the field of defence. This relationship is likely to grow in coming years.
