Pakistan and Sri Lanka have underscored the need for maintaining and promoting closer cooperation‚ particularly in the area of defence production.
This was noted at a meeting between Secretary Defence Production Retired Lt. Gen Shahid Iqbal and the visiting Sri Lankan Brig TN Jayasooriya USP in Islamabad.
The meeting also emphasised the need for developing military to military cooperation at all levels.
The meeting agreed to enhance cooperation in the area of military training‚ exercises and intelligence sharing so as to contain and counter the growing threat of terrorism. The Sri Lankan Defence delegation thanked Pakistan for its continued support to the Sri Lankan armed Forces.
Since independence, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have consistently maintained close, cordial and mutually supportive relations especially in the field of defence. Both nations have assisted each other during testing times in their history.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have comprehensive and mutually beneficial training collaboration for Army, Navy and Air Force. Over a period of time, a strong bond of commitment and mutual understanding has been reached between both the friendly armed forces. In future too, both the brotherly countries are expected to work more closely in the field of defence to boost peace efforts in the region.
