Islamabad: Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM) Syed Tariq Fatemi Friday said that Pakistan attached highest importance to its relations with Sri Lanka.
He made this remark when the new Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Pakistan, Major General (R) Jayanath Lokuketagodage, paid a courtesy call on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SAPM welcomed Ambassador Lokuketagodage to Pakistan, and emphasised that Pakistan attached the highest importance to its relations with Sri Lanka. He added that the recent leadership-level interactions between the two sides had further strengthened the relations between the two sides, and had helped identify new areas of bilateral cooperation.
The Special Assistant also briefed the Sri Lankan High Commissioner regarding the achievements of the Government in the field of counter-terrorism, as well as with regard to economy and good governance.
Ambassador Lokuke-tagodage thanked the Special Assistant for the warm welcome accorded to him in Pakistan, and expressed his resolve to continue working closely with the Government of Pakistan to retain the positive trajectory of relations between the two countries.
